Smoke Ready Week starts soon! Getting ready for smoke season

The forecast for the summer indicates western Washington might face some significant wildfire smoke events this summer. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecast for the period of June, July, and August 2024 predicts hotter than average temperatures and lower than average precipitation throughout much of the western U.S.

To help get residents prepared for potential smoke events, a coalition of air agencies, health departments, fire officials, and other organizations are participating in the annual Smoke Ready Week. This year’s event, running June 10-14, focuses on daily news and social media posts sharing detailed information about ways to prepare ourselves by understanding the dangers of smoke and the sources that contribute to it.

Each day next week, watch this space for information about being #SmokeReady.
